10,000 Hz Records started as a pop-up around Opelika and Auburn, Alabama in early 2017 and opened its bricks-and-mortar shop in historic downtown Opelika in July 2018, on a stretch of 1st Avenue it helped revitalise alongside a brewery and a bar. It sells new and used vinyl, audiophile pressings, CDs and cassettes, kept alive through 2020 by regulars ordering off spreadsheets, and it writes about its own stock with more personality than most shops three times its size.
