12 Tónar opened in Reykjavík in 1998 and became the meeting point for the city's musicians - Björk, Sigur Rós, múm and the classical circle all passed through it - to the point where it is genuinely hard to separate the shop from modern Icelandic music. It has been a label since 2003, nearly eighty releases in, with an emphasis on young and upcoming artists, and added a bar and cafe in 2019. Few record shops anywhere are this bound up with a national scene
