Isaac Kosman closed his flea market stand and opened A-1 on East 6th Street in 1996, and it has sold used vinyl and nothing else from that address ever since. The weight is soul, funk and hip-hop, widening across the dance spectrum into jazz, disco and more recently house and techno. In the early years the regulars were DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Havoc of Mobb Deep, Lord Finesse and Tony Touch, which tells you what the racks were doing for New York records at the time.
