A&O Medien has been on Kasernenstrasse in Düsseldorf since December 2004, owner-run, and reckons it is more than a shop: a place for anyone who is into culture. There is 400 square metres of it, holding vinyl, CDs, films and hi-fi equipment. The racks are split rock and pop, soul, funk, hip hop and elektronik, jazz, blues and country, reggae and world music, hardcore, metal and punk, and classical, with a section for music from Düsseldorf and an audiophile shelf. The hi-fi side runs turntables, speakers, amplifiers, receivers and CD players. The team's whole pitch is chat and recommendations, their Geheimtipps, published each year as a Plattentipps list.
