The Brooklyn arm of Academy opened in Williamsburg in 2003, moved to Greenpoint in 2013 and shifted a couple of blocks to Banker Street more recently. It is the largest independent record shop in Brooklyn and carries one of the biggest selections of new and used vinyl anywhere in the city, running wide across rock, jazz, soul and electronic. New arrivals get their own bins by the door and move quickly, because the stock is genuinely fresh - estate sales, travelling collectors and walk-in sellers.
