The San Francisco Amoeba sits in a converted bowling alley on Haight Street, opened after the original Berkeley shop that Marc Weinstein, Dave Prinz and Mike Boyder started on Telegraph Avenue in 1990. The room is enormous and the used stock turns over hard, which is what makes it worth a repeat visit rather than a single pilgrimage. Free in-store shows are a fixture.
