This is where Amoeba started. Marc Weinstein, Dave Prinz and Mike Boyder took the lease in January 1990 and opened on 17 November that year at 2455 Telegraph Avenue, on the corner of Haste, three blocks from the university. The building had been the Forum Coffee House, a 1960s Berkeley institution where poetry and politics ran together; they renovated it, painted the walls grey and filled it with record bins. A crowd was waiting on the pavement when the doors opened. San Francisco and Hollywood followed.
