Avalanche has been selling records in Edinburgh for more than forty years on the same principle it started with - push the artists the shop believes in, and listen to what the customers actually want. It ran a label of its own and spent decades as the shop Scottish independent bands went to first. It has since moved into Waverley Market, above Waverley station and a minute from both Princes Street and the Royal Mile, into a considerably bigger space paid for with a six-figure investment - which is not the direction record shops are usually reported as going. Vinyl, CDs, posters and shirts, seven days a week.
