Avi Shack and Wes Kuitenbrouwer started Beat Street in 1996 as a skate and clothing shop that turned into a record shop, and through the nineties and 2000s it was the DJ mecca in the city. Four moves later it settled on West Hastings in 2004, with around fifty thousand records out front and more in a back-room warehouse
