Beatdown exists because another shop did not. Nick Wrightson, formerly of HMV, and Paul Donley, formerly of Steel Wheels, bought Steel Wheels' stock when it was put up for sale and opened with it - so the biggest second-hand department in the north east is largely the inheritance of a closure. It sits in Old George Yard alongside RPM, and between them the two cover most of what a digger would want from the city in an afternoon.
