Andy Geue opened Big Star as a second-hand shop on Magill Road in Norwood in 1988. It grew to six shops across Adelaide at its peak; the Rundle Street store put on free gigs in the basement every Wednesday and had Blink-182, Regurgitator and They Might Be Giants play in-store. It is back to one shop now, on Magill Road again, sharing premises with Analog Fix after Darren McBain took it over in late 2025. Its real importance is the lineage: Mr V Music, Streetlight and Clarity are all run by people who worked here first, so a good part of Adelaide's record retail is Big Star's alumni
