Black City opened on Trenchard Street in 2021 as a heavy metal specialist - run by metalheads, for metalheads, which is close to how they put it themselves. It is the kind of single-genre shop that a city only sustains when the scene behind it is real, and Bristol's is: doom, sludge and hardcore have been part of the city's output for as long as its better-known electronic music has. Everything from new pressings to back catalogue, filed by people who actually go to the shows.
