When rent finally closed the Jazz Record Mart in February 2016, Bob Koester did not retire. He opened this instead, a much smaller storefront on West Irving Park Road, and carried on doing what he had done since 1953: selling jazz and blues records to people who wanted them, and knowing more about them than anybody else in the room. Koester died in 2021, aged 88
