Boite a Musique started in 1955 when Guy Lotte began repairing, renting and selling music gear from the family home in Hochelaga, before opening a first shop on rue Sainte-Catherine Est and settling at 2222 Ontario Est from 1992 until 2022. It is now based at Cite 2000, a building that houses rehearsal studios and sees over 1000 musicians a month. Instrument rental and backline management for shows are the backbone, and the shop side is a full counter for musicians: accessories plus a disquaire section carrying CDs, new vinyl and merch from local bands.
