Bongo Joe on Place de l'Ile in Geneva is a record shop with a wide choice of 12-inch and 7-inch vinyl, tapes and a picked selection of CDs and books, and it is also a bar with a terrace and a venue that programmes free concerts through the month. It is managed by an association of about a dozen active members rather than an owner. Shop and label are named after George Bongo Joe Coleman, the San Antonio street musician who turned down established venues for thirty years of playing on the street and cut his only album in 1968 for Chris Strachwitz of Arhoolie.
