Byrdland is the record shop belonging to Joe Lapan and Alisha Edmonson, who run the Songbyrd Music House, and it takes its name from the same place Songbyrd does - Charlie Byrd, the guitarist who cut Jazz Samba with Stan Getz. It opened at Union Market on Record Store Day, 24 October 2020, which was a distinctly unpromising moment to open a shop of any kind, and stocks over 5,000 new and used records picked for what DC actually buys rather than what a distributor wants to shift
