CD Trader started in 1995 and moved from Thousand Oaks to Tarzana in 2005. It is one of the largest record shops in greater Los Angeles and, against the run of play for brick-and-mortar, it has expanded rather than shrunk. The stock runs from current Top 40 to rare vintage across vinyl, CDs, cassettes, DVDs and Blu-rays, packed into a room just off the 101. Dave Maples, who styles himself the CD Overlord, has no interest in either impersonal internet selling or hipster-Hollywood record shops - the pitch is that it is simply a record store.
