Garech Browne founded Claddagh in 1959 with the psychiatrist Ivor Browne, to record and put out the music and poetry of traditional Ireland. Its first record was Leo Rowsome's Rí na bPíobairí; its second was the very first Chieftains album. It also recorded the poets - Kavanagh, Austin Clarke, John Montague and Seamus Heaney all made records for Claddagh. The shop at 2 Cecilia Street in Temple Bar is Dublin's longest-running specialist music shop and holds about the finest display of recorded Irish traditional music anywhere, with people coming from every country to buy from it or just to ask advice
