Coretex opened in February 1988 on Adalbertstraße, in the middle of West Berlin's punk and hardcore scene, and moved in the nineties to a former squat at Oranienstraße 3 - a few minutes from SO36 and Franken, which between them make a sort of Bermuda triangle of Kreuzberg punk. In 1996 three shops merged into it, Funrecords, Coretex and MAD Tourbooking, with the stated intent of putting every pillar of punk under one roof; David Strempel came in as an owner then and runs it now with Udo Flütter and Andreas Gindullis. Over 30,000 items across records, band merch, skate and streetwear and their own exclusive releases, and a stage at Myfest every May Day. Strempel puts the buying policy plainly: "We only sell stuff that we identify with, both musically and politically"
