John Polifronio and his wife Susan started Counterpoint in 1979 as a classical boutique working out of the back of a bookshop on Hollywood Boulevard. The Boulevard being what it was then, they moved the following year and sublet six hundred square feet of a frame shop in Franklin Village - then took over the frame shop, then the storefront next door. In 1997 they bought the building outright, which Susan has since called the reason the shop is still here. Second-hand and rare records, books, CDs and the sort of out-of-print ephemera that keeps people coming back
