Crazy Beat opened in Upminster in 1988 and was bought by Gary Dennis in 1991, and has dealt in reggae, dance, funk, soul and rap ever since. Stock runs past a hundred thousand records across the shop and the online side, which makes it one of the few traditional record shops left in Essex and a fixture of the high street. It has picked up an odd second life as a filming location - an Audible advert, My Mad Fat Diary, Come Dine With Me and a BBC segment on Trojan Records have all been shot in it
