Crosby's is on the Western Main Road in St James, the stretch of Trinidad that does not stop for Carnival, and it is the main place in the country to buy steelband and calypso on disc - jazz pan, local arrangements of calypso, ragga soca and chutney soca, the Indo-Caribbean strand with tassa and sitar in it. It has issued records under its own name as well as selling them. The front half also sells DJ gear and appliances, which is how a record shop stays open on an island, and does not make the back half any less serious.
