Diskid opened on 16 June 1987 and has moved twice since: fifteen years on the Vechtstraat, thirteen on the Spoelstraat behind the library, and since 2 September 2015 the Sassenstraat, which Hank Monteban calls far and away the best pitch it has ever had. He has run it throughout, joined in August 2009 by his partner Antoinette Kroon, who first walked in as a customer in 1998 and bought a record. The racks cover just about every genre from the 1950s on: rock and roll, blues, jazz, soul, hip hop, psych, prog, kraut, punk, new wave, reggae, world, exotica, heavy metal, soundtracks, folk, country and Americana, relevant through to very rare. They also ran six record fairs between 2009 and 2016, the last pulling over 800 paying visitors, and in the Benelux vinyl shop vote went from a top ten place in 2014 to second in 2015 and 2016 and first in 2017 and 2018, then stopped entering.
