Diskultura opened in 2009 as the first alternative record shop in the Ukrainian capital and is still run by DJ Mavr, who had already been playing records for two decades when he started it. It is the biggest vinyl shop in the country, sorted into something like five hundred crates, and the reason to go is the Soviet-era shelf: USSR pop and electronica that was pressed in enormous numbers and then simply never left the region, filed next to Ethiopian jazz and the usual Radiohead and Depeche Mode. Not a nostalgia shop - a working one.
