Mark Furukawa - DJ Mark to most of Hamilton - opened Dr. Disc in 1991 and has been at the centre of the city's music community for more than three decades, a few steps from Jackson Square and the James Street North strip. New releases, used, imports and hard-to-find pressings across almost every genre. The part that makes it infrastructure rather than retail is round the back: it rents and repairs turntables, mixers, speakers and lighting, so the city's underground and live scenes run partly on equipment that comes out of a record shop.
