Earth River Records reckons on Asheville's largest selection of vinyl, tapes and CDs, over 20,000 items new and used, and has been buying, selling and trading since 1968. It is a second-generation vinyl legacy handed from father to son: the first Earth River sat in the back of a headshop in Rochester, New York in 1968 under OG owner Franklin Markowitz, moved west through the 70s and 80s to Newport Beach, California, expanded to Coos Bay, Eugene and Corvalis in Oregon, passed to Franklin's son Morgan in the 90s and 2000s and moved to Seattle, then finally landed in Asheville in 2021. The shop is north of Asheville at Stone Ridge Business Park in Woodfin, next to Siam Thai, and also carries audio equipment, cassettes, CDs, DVDs, hundreds of vintage posters and signed memorabilia. They take pre-orders, sell on eBay and Discogs, ship, and are always buying collections.
