Eastern Bloc was set up in 1985 by John Berry and Martin Price, who went on to found 808 State, and became one of the very few shops in the UK importing dance records from around the world. It helped launch Inspiral Carpets and held signings for the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays, which puts it at the centre of what Manchester became in that decade. It is still in the Northern Quarter and still built around the city's dance music culture.
