Tom O'Shaughnessy, another Amoeba alumnus, opened Econo Jam in Oakland's KONO district on Halloween 2013. There is no specialism - rock, hip-hop, soul, jazz, electronic and reggae all get room - and the thing it is known for is volume at the cheap end: thousands of LPs and 45s at a dollar or two, for people who would rather dig than be sold to. It also carries the largest selection of turntables, receivers and speakers in the East Bay
