Eldica opened in 2000 on Bradbury Street, named for Annie's grandmother Eldica Joachim, a figure among the West Indian community and music scene of 1950s London. It began as a tiny mirror and mosaic shop three doors up; Andy's 45s and 12-inches started appearing on the shelves, caught the attention of Caribbean old-timers and former Jamaican sound-system selectors around Dalston, and the records eventually took the place over. The buying is music of black origin from across the world with very little released after the mid-nineties, picked to reflect the streets outside.
