Ella opened in July 2016 on the stretch between Hatagaya and Yoyogi-Uehara, dealing in vintage records across rock, jazz, soul and Japanese music - bought in Japan and imported. The room is wooden and warm with two listening stations set by the windows, which tells you the intended pace of a visit. The shop also publishes a well-regarded guide to other Tokyo record shops, which is an unusually generous thing for a record shop to do
