Dan Plunkett and Blake Carlisle opened End of an Ear on South First Street in 2005 for the simple reason that they both lived in South Austin and there was no record shop there. The name comes from the Robert Wyatt album, which is a fair warning about the buying: rare punk singles, Pauline Oliveros, experimental and avant-garde records from everywhere, alongside the ordinary business of a very good general shop. The landlord sold the South First building in 2016 and it moved to Clawson Road near Ben White
