Adrian Rew - a Lot Radio resident and former curator at the art space Blank Forms - opened Ergot on East 2nd Street in September 2021, taking the name from his own label. The pandemic pushed him into retail: downtown had just lost 2 Bridges Music Arts, the Pyramid Club and Max Fish, and he wanted to put something back in a neighbourhood that used to be full of vinyl. The stock is mostly used records and cassettes running from jazz, salsa, punk, disco, hip-hop and house through to the avant-garde, minimalism and records made by visual artists. The room was kept deliberately open so performances can happen in it.
