The Islington branch of Flashback was set up in 1997 on two floors in a parade set back a little from Essex Road. The ground floor carries a wide selection of new vinyl, CDs and DVDs; the basement is the well-organised used stock the shop is known for. It was the first of three: Crouch End followed in 2006, taking over a spot Listen Records had run for years and moving to larger premises on Topsfield Parade in August 2021, and Shoreditch opened in 2014 on Bethnal Green Road. All three buy vinyl, CDs and DVDs over the counter.
