Mike Grimes started Grimey's in a small house in Berry Hill in December 1999, to shift stock he had picked up working in the industry, with the stated aim of building the Floyd's Barbershop of record stores - somewhere people turn up whether or not they are buying. Doyle Davis, previously an executive at The Great Escape, came in as co-owner in 2002. After 8th Avenue South the shop moved in 2018 into a former Pentecostal church on East Trinity Lane: stained glass, arched wooden ceilings, a performance stage, and two floors of vinyl, CDs and books.
