Melik Bencheikh opened Heartbeat in early 2016 on Rue Godefroy Cavaignac, after years working in distribution in London, and named it after a War track. It is a small shop that behaves like a specialist one: soul, jazz and disco alongside rare house and techno twelves, edited down rather than piled high. The Vinyl Factory's Paris guide puts it closer in spirit to the specialist shops of Shibuya than to the big second-hand stores Paris is better known for, which is a fair description of the difference between digging here and digging at the flea market.
