House of Oldies was started and is still run by Jan Karlin, a well-known name in Swedish collector circles, and has been at the same address, Torsgatan 63 in Stockholm, since April 1994. The story started on the other side of the world: Jan sold his entire collection to travel, walked into a record shop in Auckland, New Zealand, found a goldmine at unlikely prices, phoned home to arrange a loan and after two days of sorting shipped 800 records back to Sweden by boat. Today it is a meeting place for anyone who loves vinyl from the 50s, 60s and 70s, with a deep run of 50s rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, jazz, country and bluegrass. They buy and sell single copies and whole collections, have bought the largest collections in Sweden and two of the largest ever offered in the USA, and are one of only two shops in Sweden appointed as sworn appraisers by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce. Open Wednesday to Friday 14-18 and Saturday 11-15.
