Hugos Plattenkiste was founded in 1982 and has belonged to Hugo since 1988, building a reputation well beyond the Ahr valley in the decades everyone else was predicting the death of the physical record. The flood on the night of 14 July 2021 destroyed most of the stock, and with it many rarities, but not the knowledge behind the counter: the shop traded from a pop-up mall on the City-Ost car park from that November and returned to its old address on Poststrasse for its fortieth anniversary in September 2022.
