Alberto Maraví founded Infopesa in 1971 and in its 1970s pomp it was the most important music business in Peru at once - label, studio and pressing plant - and the machine that carried cumbia out of the barrios and across the country. His son Juan Ricardo relaunched it in 2011 and opened the shop in 2016, so the counter now sells what the same company pressed fifty years ago: original Peruvian cumbia, salsa, boleros and Nueva Ola from the '70s and '80s, plus the reissues. Very few record shops anywhere are selling their own back catalogue.
