Gary Abugan and Brandon Hocura started Invisible City as a label in 2012 and opened the shop on Geary Avenue in 2016, which is the right order for what it does: the racks are an extension of years spent looking for Caribbean funk, soca and island soul, not a general stock with a specialism bolted on. It holds probably the most carefully assembled selection of that music anywhere in Canada, and it keeps generous five-dollar bins underneath it, so the door is open to people who have never heard any of it.
