Jim Callon - Mr Cool Cat - and his wife Dacie started JDC in 1977, the initials being theirs. He had been a musician and sound engineer around the Doors, Janis Joplin and Parliament-Funkadelic, and JDC became one of the important dance distributors of the years between 1976 and 1990, shipping worldwide, carrying independent labels and putting out the JDC Mixers that DJs like Pebo built from its catalogue. It ran a label too, including the hip-hop sub-label Dunk Yer Funk. The business bounced around the South Bay in the nineties before Callon brought it back to San Pedro in 2013, and the shop reopened on 6th Street in 2016 - a distributor's warehouse you can walk into
