Kankyo Records started up in 2021 as a record store dealing in records, CDs and cassette tapes with a focus on ambient music and the theme of listening in the living environment, and it stocks the rest of that idea too: apparel, homeware, incense and audio. It began releasing as a label in 2023, including a Sound Incense project pairing an original scent with a cassette, and in April 2024 it opened a listening space, the Home Listening Room, in the Koen gallery space near Nakameguro station, designed with the record store's own architect so you can sit and actually listen.
