Martin Koppel sold his first record in 1965, when the entire town of Goole in England, population 4,000 and some sheep, had its collective mind blown. He opened his first record shop on Queen Street East in Toronto in 1976 and has been selling records in the city ever since, which makes Kops the oldest independent record store in Toronto and the Durham region. The King Street East shop in Oshawa carries new and used vinyl across pop and rock, jazz, soul, hip-hop and R&B, electronic, punk and metal, roots, soundtracks, world, classical and ambient, and buying collections is a whole department in itself.
