La Dame Blanche has been on Rue de la Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, on the hill behind the Panthéon, since 1987. It holds something in the order of 100,000 records across sevens and twelves, and the range is deliberately wide rather than specialist: rock, pop, soul, funk, jazz and free jazz, blues, world, film soundtracks, classical, contemporary and avant-garde. It buys as well as sells, which is how a stock that size keeps turning over. Prices are the other half of its reputation - this is a volume shop, not a rarities boutique.
