Looney Tunes was started in 1978 by two men called Jerry and Seth, and traded for about thirty years by Berklee, with a second shop in Cambridge's Orson Welles building for twenty-odd. Pat McGrath began working there in 1982, became Seth's partner and ended up owning it. When the Berklee-area landlord wanted something else in the space the shop lost its room, tried somewhere that lasted ten weeks, and then was shut for four or five years before reopening in the dingy basement of the old firehouse at 16 Harvard Avenue in Allston. Records are stacked in boxes, piled on tables, leaning on walls and spilling into the walkways, which reads as chaos until you ask McGrath for something. Hindustani, European, jazz and whatever else turned up. There is a cat called Jane on rodent duty
