Jerry Brock - one of the founders of WWOZ, and the man who first recorded the Dirty Dozen Brass Band - opened the Louisiana Music Factory with Barry Smith on North Peters Street in February 1992. It moved to Decatur Street in 1996, with the whole upper floor given over to vintage vinyl, and to Frenchmen Street in March 2014 when the lease went. The remit is local: traditional jazz, blues, R&B, zydeco and Cajun, much of it on Louisiana independent labels, and it holds what is reckoned the largest selection of historic jazz recordings in any single shop in the world.
