Michelle Records opened in 1977, spent its first year on Glockengiesserwall and moved to Gertrudenkirchhof in the city centre in 1978, which makes it Hamburg's oldest record shop. It is a large room carrying new vinyl and CDs across everything from electronics to jazz to indie, with used LPs, CDs, DVDs and music books alongside, and Hamburg labels given a section of their own. After going insolvent in the late 1990s it came back on a new footing built around local music and window concerts, and it still runs album launches and small live sets by German and international bands.
