Sanders Papworth opened this shop in West End Arcade in 1919, and it is still in the hands of his descendants - it passed its centenary in 2019 under the name Music Inn, which the family adopted in the 1970s. Mr Rose's father Eric spent years touring with bands and selling records at their gigs, Tony Bennett among them, which is a trade that no longer exists. What is left is a few racks of vinyl weighted towards Doris Day's generation and a run of soundtracks, kept going for a century by nothing more complicated than a family that likes records. Only three shops in this directory have been trading longer.
