OYE takes its name from Tito Puente's Oye Como Va and started in 2002 in a basement on the corner of Kastanienallee and Oderberger Strasse that needed a great deal of work before it could be a shop. It began as a Latin, soul and funk shop and widened - Afrobeat, hip-hop, jazz, and the house and techno that Berlin runs on - across three rooms, with house and disco taking the largest share. Delfonic and Tinko run it; Tinko Rosht and Markus Lindner became partners in 2007 after years behind the counter. A second shop opened in northern Neukoelln in 2013. The in-stores routinely spill out onto the street.
