Tanya Gorbunova and AJ Pacheco opened Pancakes on Steinway Street in July 2023, both Astoria residents of more than a decade. Pacheco had helped open Hi-Fi Records on the same street and run it as general manager for eight years until its owner moved back to Puerto Rico and it closed in January 2023 - Pancakes exists so the neighbourhood did not lose its record shop. The racks run wide, from standards to new releases, and the back of the shop is an art gallery showing local work and hosting live music monthly.
