Penny Lane opened in 1985 and was named Independent Retailer of the Year by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers in 1996. It went from being the largest independent chain in Los Angeles, with stores in Venice Beach, Westwood Village, the Third Street Promenade, three in Pasadena, Torrance, Burbank Village and Belmont Shore plus franchises in Whittier and Sacramento, to a single shop in Upland, still run by the original owner. That shop has now expanded to twice its original size at 235 E. 9th Street, buying, selling, trading and consigning CDs, LPs, 45s, cassettes, DVDs, Blu-ray, posters, books and other bits. Highest prices paid for top grade vinyl LPs, and they will come to you for large collections. They also sell on Discogs with a 100 percent positive feedback rating, and other quality record vendors are invited to sell on consignment.
